CMWU's Report on Emergency Repairs During the Israeli Aggression on the Gaza Strip
During the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, CMWU worked to repair the damage sustained by numerous water and sanitation facilities belonging to CMWU as a result of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, with damage recorded to 26 water wells, 6 desalination plants, 75 kilometers of networks, 16 water reservoirs, in addition to a sewage treatment plant and numerous machinery and facilities belonging to CMWU and the municipalities.
CMWU, in cooperation with the Strip's municipalities, formed emergency teams of engineers, technicians, and maintenance workers in all areas in Rafah, Khan Younis, the middle area, Gaza, and the northern governorate, and provided them with all the available capabilities and spare parts available in the Utility's warehouses to repair what could be repaired of the damage as quickly as possible to continue water supplies reaching residents, despite the dangerous and extremely difficult circumstances that threatened the lives of workers in the field.
During the period of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, CMWU, funded by the Red Cross, was able to carry out numerous emergency repairs, with the Utility's crews able to repair the damage to a 630mm diameter sewage conveyance line in Beit Lahia city, at a cost of $12,550, with the number of beneficiaries of this network estimated at 150,000 residents.
In Jabalia city, CMWU repaired the damage to several sewage lines with diameters of 8", 10", 800mm, and 630mm, at a cost of $25,900, with the number of beneficiaries of these networks estimated at 200,000 residents.
CMWU also repaired, in the middle area, the damage to water conveyance lines with diameters of 6" and 10" in Al-Nuseirat city, at a cost of $12,000, with the number of beneficiaries of these networks estimated at 40,000 residents, and also repaired the damage to an 18" diameter sewage line in Al-Bureij city, at a cost of $6,350, with the number of beneficiaries of this network estimated at 30,000 residents.
In the southern areas of the Gaza Strip, CMWU repaired damage in numerous areas, with repairs made in Rafah city to damage in networks, including manholes and sewage pipes of various diameters, 6", 12", 18", and 24", and 600mm concrete pipes, as well as 4" and 6" water pipes, at a cost of $78,650, with the number of beneficiaries of these networks estimated at 100,000 residents.
In addition to supplying facilities with quantities of diesel amid the war and the electricity outage for long hours, in order to ensure the provision of water and sanitation services to residents, reaching about 600,000 liters.
The damage to several sewage lines with diameters of 4", 6", and 8" in the Al-Shawka area was also repaired, at a cost of $8,350, with the number of beneficiaries of this network estimated at 20,000 residents.
The damage to numerous water networks of various diameters, 4", 6", 10", 3", 63mm, and 50mm, in the Khuza'a area was also repaired, at a cost of $13,500, with the number of beneficiaries of this network estimated at 20,000 residents.
It is worth noting that CMWU supplied the municipalities with the spare parts and maintenance supplies available to it to help them repair the damage sustained by the water and sanitation facilities belonging to those municipalities, and also supplied the municipalities with various quantities of fuel so they could move around and operate the water facilities.
