CMWU, the Water Authority, and the WASH Cluster organized a consultative workshop on the maintenance and operation plan for water facilities for the coming five years.
CMWU, the Palestinian Water Authority, and the group of partner institutions working in the water and sanitation sector in Palestine (WASH Cluster) organized a consultative workshop to discuss the plan and needs of maintenance and operation works for water and sanitation facilities in the Gaza Strip for the coming five years.
The workshop was attended by CMWU's Executive Director Eng. Monther Shoblaq, his Deputy for Operations and Maintenance Affairs Eng. Omar Shatat, KfW Projects Management Director Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, Head of the Projects Coordination Section Eng. Yasmin Bashir, and the Director-General of the Projects Coordination Unit at the Water Authority Eng. Marwan Al-Bardawil, with the participation of representatives of some donor institutions, UN institutions, and international civil institutions working in the water sector.
The workshop aimed to brief the local and international partner and supporting institutions on the current situation regarding operation and maintenance operations in the sector, and clarify the humanitarian, emergency, and developmental dimensions and their relationship to these important activities in the short and long term.
The participants addressed the ways to strengthen and support CMWU's efforts to continue the operation and maintenance operations of water and sanitation facilities, especially the strategic ones, until the development of CMWU is completed and it is transformed into a regional water facility in accordance with the Water Law, as well as reaching a stage of sustainability for these operations in a way that leads to strengthening the institutional system and reform in the water sector, and the government response according to the requirements of sustainability and governance, and moving forward in this field.
During this workshop, the importance of joint work and cooperation between the various institutions working in the water sector was affirmed, through clear and flexible mechanisms that contribute to implementing the relevant interventions at various humanitarian or developmental levels, in a way that supports providing appropriate service to more than two million residents in the Gaza Strip.
