The Director-General visits Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, and Jabalia municipalities to discuss developing water services and follow up on the $125 million NGEST project.
CMWU Visits a Number of Municipalities in North Gaza Strip Governorate.
Gaza - CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq conducted a field tour during which he visited a number of municipalities in North Gaza Strip governorate, with the tour including a visit to Beit Hanoun Municipality, Beit Lahia Municipality, and Jabalia Municipality, accompanied on the tour by Mr. Mamdouh Al-Ghazali, Deputy Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs.
In turn, the mayors of the three municipalities welcomed Eng. Shoblaq's visit, expressing their appreciation for the Utility's leading role, its effort, and its continuous communication with the municipalities of North Gaza Strip, and its attention and keenness on advancing service projects related to water and sanitation in the northern governorate.
During the visits, Eng. Shoblaq discussed with the mayors of the three municipalities ways to develop the services provided to residents, and overcome all the obstacles facing the work of the Utility and the municipalities and the projects implemented, operated, and supervised by the Utility in cooperation with the municipalities, with the discussion also including reviewing the progress of work on a number of projects currently being implemented, and discussing the technical and logistical aspects of the work in the northern governorate.
In turn, Eng. Shoblaq expressed his continued pride in the northern governorate and its municipalities, thanking them for their continuous cooperation regarding water and sanitation projects, affirming that the Utility will continue implementing and operating many important projects in the northern area, whether at the level of water reservoirs, of which the Utility has opened a large number in the north, the latest of which was Al-Attatra reservoir west of Beit Lahia city, with a capacity of about 4,000 cubic meters of water, serving more than 20,000 people, as well as sewage pumps, the latest of which was the reopening and operation of Amer pump, which serves more than 35,000 residents of Amer area, located between Jabalia and Beit Lahia cities.
Shoblaq also affirmed that the northern governorate obtained the largest sewage treatment project, known as "NGEST," which was recently opened at a total value of $125 million, serving residents of the northern area, whose population exceeds 350,000 people, which will in turn protect the northern area from a health hazard and environmental crisis that has continued for many years, and will help residents in numerous life aspects, particularly farmers who will benefit from the treated water in the irrigation process, with the project contributing to providing alternative water sources to irrigate 15,000 dunums in the east of Gaza and North governorates.
At the conclusion of the visits, Eng. Shoblaq thanked the mayors and crews of the three municipalities for their warm reception and welcome and positive communication regarding all the details of the work, services, and projects provided to residents, also affirming the continuation of cooperation and constructive partnership between the Utility and the municipalities of the northern governorate, hoping that any obstacles hindering the progress of work would be overcome, wishing the municipalities every success and prosperity in the coming days.
