Gaza Strip – CMWU, through its field crews, began moving crisis and emergency water transport vehicles to supply residents of Al-Maghraqa area, which was subjected to Israeli shelling the evening before last, causing severe destruction to Al-Maghraqa Municipality's property and destroying the area's main water reservoir, as well as the sole water well, the main water lines, the electricity generator, and the diesel tank affiliated with the Municipality, with the destroyed water well feeding the entire Al-Maghraqa area, benefiting about 11,500 people.
In turn, CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq affirmed that the Utility rushed to intervene urgently via the water transport vehicles designated for emergencies and crises, which the Utility had been keen to secure for such times through water projects with a number of partners and funders such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and UNICEF, with these vehicles moved immediately and currently supplying the area's residents with desalinated water from the seawater desalination plant in Deir al-Balah area, out of the Utility's keenness not to let the water crisis among the area's residents worsen and in an attempt by the Utility to ease the severity of the damage suffered by residents as a result of the depletion of water quantities in their homes after the reservoir was destroyed and the area's sole water well stopped pumping.
Shoblaq also affirmed that this intervention comes as part of the duty incumbent upon the Utility to ensure the continued provision of services to all areas of the Strip amid the harshest circumstances, as well as fulfilling the role entrusted to the Utility to support the municipalities in the Gaza Strip to ensure the continuation of work and prevent the service from stopping, with Shoblaq noting that the Utility will continue supplying residents of Al-Maghraqa area with water to prevent water from running out of their homes throughout the current period, until the water department at Al-Maghraqa Municipality, which was destroyed, is repaired and rehabilitated at the earliest possible time.
