CMWU, with support from Medecins Sans Frontieres Holland, upgraded the desalination plant west of Khan Younis, raising its output to 80 cubic meters per hour, by installing new plants and pumps.
CMWU Upgrades the Desalination Plant West of Khan Younis to Increase Its Production Capacity
CMWU, funded by and in partnership with Medecins Sans Frontieres - Holland, carried out upgrade works on its desalination plant installed at the Utility's emergency headquarters west of Khan Younis, aiming to increase the plant's production capacity to meet the needs of residents and displaced persons amid difficult humanitarian conditions.
The works included installing a new desalination unit with a production capacity of 20 cubic meters/hour, and drilling a submersible well with a capacity of 70 cubic meters/hour, in addition to installing two tanks with capacities of 150 cubic meters and 100 cubic meters.
The Utility, in partnership with the Clean Shelter Foundation, also installed an additional desalination unit with a capacity of 10 cubic meters/hour, contributing to increasing the total quantity of water produced from the aforementioned desalination plant to 80 cubic meters/hour, ensuring the water needs of residents, displaced persons, and shelter centers for safe, clean drinking water are covered in the areas west of Khan Younis and Al-Mawasi.
