CMWU's Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan received the Deputy Director-General of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development for the Middle East, Mr. Volker Aul, and the Middle East Officer at the German Development Bank KfW, Mr. Marc Engelhardt, and their accompanying delegation from the German Representative Office in Palestine, at the sewage treatment plant east of the Central Governorate, in the presence of CMWU's Executive Director Eng. Monther Shoblaq, his Deputy for Engineering and Planning Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, and the Director of the Central Gaza Sanitation Project Eng. Fareed Ashour.
In turn, Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan welcomed the delegation, praising the excellent cooperation and genuine partnership with the German side, which resulted in the completion of the sewage treatment plant project, one of the foremost strategic projects at the national level, relying on the latest technology in the treatment process, which mainly relies on providing alternative electric power from the biogas produced by the treatment process, in addition to the solar power generation unit at the plant.
In turn, the visiting German delegation expressed their happiness at being in the Gaza Strip and visiting this project, which represents an important step toward developing infrastructure in the Gaza Strip in general and sanitation systems in particular, and to reassure themselves about the progress of the treatment plant's operations and the challenges it faces in order to continue serving the residents of the targeted areas. The delegation also affirmed that the German government is keen to continue supporting all projects that would upgrade the water and sanitation sector.
It is worth noting that the construction and operation of the treatment plant east of Al-Bureij will significantly contribute to solving environmental problems in the targeted areas in Gaza and Central governorates and finding a sustainable solution to the problem of Gaza Valley's pollution, as a step toward restoring it as a nature reserve, which was greatly affected over the past years.
