CMWU Receives a Delegation from the World Bank on an Inspection Visit to Water and Sanitation Projects

CMWU received a delegation from the World Bank, headed by Mr. Steven Schonberger, the World Bank's Practice Manager for the Middle East and Balkans regions, on an inspection visit to numerous water and sanitation projects in the Gaza Strip, with the delegation received by Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, Deputy Director-General for Projects and Policy, and a number of engineers from the Supervision and Projects Department.
The visit aims to follow up on numerous water and sanitation projects currently underway with funding from the World Bank and a number of donors, within the Water and Sanitation Services Sustainability Improvement Project (WSSSIP) and the additional grant provided by the World Bank to repair the damage sustained by numerous water and sanitation facilities resulting from the 2014 aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The visit lasted two days, during which the delegation inspected, on the first day, several projects, starting with a visit to the Al-Maghraqa water reservoir and the sewage pumping station in Al-Nuseirat, followed by a visit to the laboratory building at CMWU's new headquarters in Al-Zahra city, the seawater desalination plant in Deir al-Balah, Al-Aqsa water reservoir in Deir al-Balah, and the new Bani Suheila and Khuza'a area reservoirs, with the tour concluding with a visit to the small-scale seawater desalination plant and the proposed site for constructing the central plant.
The visit's second day included meetings with CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq and directors from the Utility's various departments, aiming to discuss the performance indicators for 2015 and learn about the Utility's future plans to ensure the sustainability of its services to include all the Strip's municipalities.
