CMWU received UNICEF's water sector officer at the seawater desalination plant south of Gaza to discuss supply challenges.
CMWU received Mr. Dara Johnston, Water and Sanitation Sector Officer at UNICEF in Palestine, during his visit with the UNICEF team to the seawater desalination plant south of the Gaza Strip.
The delegation was received by Eng. Omar Shatat, CMWU Deputy Executive Director, the desalination plant manager Eng. Ahmed Al-Rubai, Eng. Moataz Abu Al-Qumboz, Projects Design Director, and the technical staff operating the desalination plant.
This visit aimed to review the progress of work at the plant, in addition to the drinking water supply program for displaced residents from water sources via the water utility's water networks and tankers.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the procedures and needs for supplying the residents of the central and southern governorates and the displaced persons who have moved there, and the challenges facing the water utility and the municipalities in continuing to provide water and sanitation services, whether in terms of safety while carrying out services and the severe shortage of equipment, generators, spare parts, and other materials and needs of the water and sanitation sector.
