CMWU Begins Rehabilitating the Al-Amal Rainwater Collection and Filtration Basin in Khan Younis
CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality and with joint funding from the Islamic Development Bank and the Arab Organization for the Reconstruction of Gaza, has begun implementing the works of the rehabilitation project for the rainwater collection pond in Al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis, with the project's works beginning in April of this year and expected to continue until April 2017.
The project's value is $3 million, benefiting about 200 thousand residents of the areas adjacent to Al-Amal basin, and this project aims to rehabilitate Al-Amal basin to receive rainwater and filter it to benefit from it in recharging the groundwater aquifer, in addition to preventing floods that could cause damage to residents and their properties.
The project's works include constructing a rainwater collection and filtration basin on an area of 15 dunums and constructing a service building including a room for the electrical panels necessary to operate the pump located inside the basin and a guard room, in addition to constructing a fence around the entire perimeter of the basin.
The project also includes laying a 160-meter rainwater line to deliver rainwater from surrounding areas to the basin's entrance.
It is worth noting that recreational areas and playgrounds will also be built, opening their doors to residents in the summer season.
