CMWU continued its preparations to confront the rainy season, in cooperation with the emergency team at Rafah Municipality, where an additional pump was installed at the sewage collection station (Jemeza Al-Sabeel) west of Rafah city, which also receives a quantity of rainwater coming to it through surface runoff on the roads. Installing the additional pump comes within the framework of the measures followed by CMWU to develop and improve the pumping system in the sanitation sector in general and confront the damage that may result from heavy rainfall in the winter season and ease residents' suffering in Rafah city and preserve their lives, especially since the Jemeza Al-Sabeel area witnessed, during past seasons, the collection of large quantities of rainwater.
Amid the great shortage of construction materials due to the siege on the Gaza Strip and the challenges facing the completion of work, the technical crews at CMWU provided and transported concrete blocks and used them as a platform for installing the additional pump on it, with the pump to operate at a pumping capacity of 590 cubic meters per hour at a pumping head of 51 meters, raising the station's pumping capacity to 1,500 cubic meters per hour.
It is scheduled that another pump will be installed to strengthen the Al-Najili rainwater pumping station, with a pumping capacity of 340 cubic meters per hour.
