Signing two contracts worth $9.4 million to build filtration basins and water basins in Al-Fukhari and emergency conveyance lines under the Khan Younis treatment plant, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and Japan.

CMWU Signs Today Two New Contracts under the Khan Younis Sewage Treatment Plant Project, with the signing carried out by Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan, Chairman of the Utility's Board of Directors, in the presence of Eng. Monther Shoblaq, the Utility's Director-General, Eng. Ashraf Abu Shamala, Director of the Central Sewage Treatment Plant Construction Project in Khan Younis, representing UNDP, and in the presence of a representative of the Islamic Development Bank, the Mayor of Khan Younis, and the contractors of the companies contracted.
In turn, Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan welcomed the attendees to the signing ceremony, thanking the supporting bodies for this project for their continuous interest in improving the water and sanitation situation in the Gaza Strip, while Eng. Monther Shoblaq wished success to the contractors of the companies contracted, hoping to achieve the best results after completing this important phase of the Khan Younis central treatment plant project.
The first of the two signed contracts includes constructing the sewage filtration basins in the Al-Fukhari area, on an area of 100 dunums, to absorb more than 9 million cubic meters annually of treated water, which is filtered into the ground and then recovered for use in agricultural purposes, with this contract valued at $5.636 million, while the second contract includes constructing emergency conveyance lines, with these lines about 13 km long and a diameter ranging from 90 cm to one meter, with the contract valued at $3.821 million, with the implementation period of both contracts being 20 months in parallel.
