CMWU Completes the Al-Amal Pond Development Project in Khan Younis City.
CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality, completed developing Al-Amal pond for rainwater collection, on an area of 100 dunums, with the project including excavation works for the basin to absorb 250,000 cubic meters of rainwater collected from 30% of Khan Younis city's neighborhoods, filtering about 13,000 cubic meters daily of the water collected in this basin into the groundwater aquifer.
The project also includes constructing a pumping station with a capacity of 2,700 cubic meters/hour to transfer the water exceeding the basin's absorption capacity to another basin located west of Khan Younis city.
In addition, the project included separating the sewage lines from the rainwater network in Khan Younis city, in order to preserve the groundwater aquifer from pollution and ensure the collection of rainwater free of sewage.
It is worth noting that 40 dunums of the basin's area were allocated to be recreational areas and green spaces, to serve as recreational facilities for residents during the summer season, particularly as Al-Amal neighborhood lacks such facilities.
The project's total cost reached $4 million, funded jointly by the Islamic Development Bank and the Arab Organization for the Reconstruction of Gaza.
