CMWU Brings New Water and Sanitation Vehicles into Service in Rafah and Khan Younis Municipalities.
Gaza Strip - CMWU organized a handover ceremony for a number of new water and sanitation vehicles after completing all the licensing, insurance, and training procedures needed for their use, with Eng. Monther Issa Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, completing the handover ceremony for the new vehicles, in the presence of Rafah Municipality's Mayor Mr. Subhi Abu Radwan, Khan Younis Municipality's Mayor Eng. Yahya Al-Astal, Deputy Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mr. Mamdouh Al-Ghazali, Director of the Utility's Rafah regional headquarters Eng. Mohammed Al-Abwaini, and a group of CMWU's, Rafah Municipality's, and Khan Younis Municipality's staff and crews.
The handover of these vehicles comes as part of the water and sanitation project funded by the European Union and the German Development Bank KfW through the Palestinian Water Authority, aiming to support and improve the water and sanitation sector and as part of contributing to improving the quality and standard of the service provided to residents of the Gaza Strip.
The handover ceremony began for Khan Younis Municipality at CMWU's main warehouse west of Khan Younis city, where a water transport vehicle and an Iveco sewage vacuum truck were handed over on loan to Khan Younis Municipality, with the service to be provided under the supervision of CMWU's regional headquarters in Khan Younis governorate, followed by the handover of a water truck and two Iveco vacuum trucks to CMWU's headquarters in Rafah, during the ceremony held inside the groundwater reservoir yard in central Rafah city, in the presence of Mr. Subhi Abu Radwan, Rafah's Mayor.
In turn, CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq welcomed all attendees of the handover ceremony, affirming the great importance of these modern and advanced vehicles and their great role in improving the service provided by the Utility's and municipalities' crews, who work under the most difficult circumstances and amid limited capabilities, also praising the relationship and great role exerted by Khan Younis and Rafah municipalities with CMWU to advance water and sanitation services, expressing his sincere thanks to the German government, the European Union, the Water Authority, and all supporters and contributors to the success of this project and all the Utility's projects, affirming that the Utility will continue its work and efforts to do everything that would contribute to increasing the quality of water and sanitation services for residents in all governorates of the Gaza Strip.
In turn, Eng. Yahya Al-Astal, Mayor of Khan Younis, and Mr. Subhi Abu Radwan, Mayor of Rafah, extended thanks to CMWU for its interest and keenness on providing everything that would improve water and sanitation services, affirming the depth of the integrative relationship and joint cooperation between Rafah and Khan Younis municipalities and CMWU, wishing for the continuation of efforts for the good and benefit of residents.
It is worth noting that the new Iveco sanitation vehicles are considered among the best vehicles used internationally and among the most advanced, with the crews working at CMWU and the municipalities trained on using and maintaining them by specialized German engineers from MULLER company, with these vehicles set to play a great role in improving the service, particularly since the old sanitation vehicles have been used for a long time and need periodic maintenance and are no longer operating at the required efficiency.
