CMWU Suspends the Adjustment Implemented on the Water Services Bill
In consideration of the difficult economic conditions our people are going through in Rafah governorate, and in agreement with Mr. Subhi Abu Radwan, Mayor of Rafah, and representatives of the national and Islamic factions, neighborhood committees, and the Legislative Council in Rafah, and out of our respect for the partnership with local community institutions and committees towards achieving the common interest of both the citizen and CMWU as a national institution, CMWU affirms the suspension of the adjustment recently implemented on the water services bill in Rafah, effective from 1/6/2016, on the condition that the application of the adjusted tariff be resumed after further consultations with Rafah Municipality, the national committee, and neighborhood committees to choose the appropriate time to make the adjustment to the tariff, noting that the decision was issued after the approval of the competent authorities at the Ministry of Local Government, with the aim of contributing to improving water services and due to the low prices of the service in Rafah governorate compared to the rest of the governorates, such that they do not cover operating costs.
As CMWU takes this decision from the standpoint of its social responsibility towards residents, it calls upon its dear subscribers benefiting from its services in Rafah governorate to commit to paying water services bills to secure the minimum operating expenses that would enable it to continue providing water and sanitation services, especially amid the special circumstances of Rafah governorate in terms of the repeated outages and weakness of electrical power, which negatively affects our services provided and greatly increases the burden of operating expenses.
