CMWU receives the Chairman of the Water Authority during a three-day tour that included laying the foundation stone of the Gaza desalination plant, opening the southern desalination plant, and Khuza'a reservoir.
CMWU Receives the Chairman of the Water Authority during His Visit to the Gaza Strip
CMWU received the Chairman of the Palestinian Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghanem, and his accompanying delegation, during his visit to the Gaza Strip, which lasted three days, during which he visited several water and sanitation projects and facilities.
On 17/1/2017, the visit began with an inspection tour of Al-Atatra water reservoir and Sheikh Radwan reservoir belonging to the seawater desalination plant northwest of Gaza city.
On the second day of his tour, the Chairman of the Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghanem was accompanied by Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan, Chairman of CMWU's Board of Directors, Eng. Monther Shoblaq, the Utility's Director-General, and a number of engineers and mayors, where the Minister visited several water and sanitation projects that CMWU oversees, to learn about the progress of work and achievement.
The tour began with laying the foundation stone for the Gaza desalination plant, considered the first building block of desalination projects to supply Gaza city with desalinated water, alongside the central and southern desalination plants serving the central and southern areas. The tour also included visiting Al-Kawthar reservoir in the Al-Maghazi area and unveiling preparations for constructing the Al-Bureij central sewage treatment plant.
Eng. Ghanem's tour on the second day also included a visit to the Utility's headquarters, where he met with the department directors at the Utility, and Ghanem spoke during the meeting about the scale of investment in water and sanitation projects and the tangible progress this vital and important sector is witnessing, expressing his hope that the expansion of these projects would continue to improve water quality and increase the quantities of water fit for drinking, and pointed to the complementarity of roles between the Water Authority and CMWU in implementing treatment plant projects to preserve public safety, the environment, and water sources.
For his part, Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan affirmed CMWU's pride and its emphasis on the spirit of partnership with the Palestinian Water Authority, while also stressing the special nature and importance of the water and sanitation sector in the Gaza Strip and the keenness to make further efforts to implement desalination projects and sewage treatment plants, and also stressed the importance of treating sewage water and benefiting from rainwater to strengthen water resources.
The third day's tour included a visit to Al-Muntar reservoir east of Gaza city and the opening of the seawater desalination plant south of the Gaza Strip, which will serve areas of the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis, followed by the opening of Khuza'a reservoir, which was rebuilt after being destroyed during the last aggression on the Gaza Strip.
