Terre des Hommes - Switzerland (Tdh) Supplies CMWU with the Chlorine Necessary to Meet the Utility's Emergency Need, Helping Provide Clean Water for War-Affected Families in Gaza's Governorates
CMWU - Gaza
More than 90% of the water provided to the population in the Gaza Strip has been classified as unfit for human consumption. To improve this situation, CMWU, responsible for water in the Gaza Strip, needs an uninterrupted supply of chlorine necessary for treating and disinfecting well water. Accordingly, the Utility sent an urgent request to Terre des Hommes explaining its dire need for chlorine. In record time, an agreement was signed allowing Terre des Hommes to supply 109 cubic meters of chlorine used to disinfect water from wells belonging to CMWU in various areas of the Gaza Strip.
CMWU faced numerous emergencies, such as the last war last summer, which made it impossible to cover the existing deficit in chlorine stock. Terre des Hommes responded to the Utility's request by supplying a quantity of chlorine sufficient for the next three months, which eases a great financial burden on CMWU, given its need for a continuous supply of disinfecting chlorine to be able to continue the water disinfection process.
It is noted that CMWU takes upon itself the responsibility of distributing chlorine and water disinfectants to all water wells belonging to all municipalities of the Gaza Strip, to ensure the safety of the water reaching residents and out of concern for and preservation of their health.
