The Cooperative Association and CMWU Open a Drinking Water Well and Desalination Plant in Wadi Gaza Village
The Cooperative Association and CMWU, in cooperation with Wadi Gaza Municipality, opened a new water well and a drinking water desalination plant in Wadi Gaza village, with generous funding from the Kuwait Fund for Development managed by the Islamic Development Bank, within the infrastructure development interventions of the integrated program for developing Wadi Gaza village implemented by the Cooperative Association to improve the living conditions of the village's residents and improve the quality of services provided to them, with its budget estimated at $28 million.
The opening ceremony was attended by Eng. Ramadan Naeem, Director of the Supervision and Projects Department at CMWU, Eng. Fadi Al-Hindi, Director of the Cooperative Association in the Gaza Strip, Eng. Mohammed Al-Muqayyad, Director of the Integrated Program for Developing Wadi Gaza Village at the Cooperative Association, Mayor of Wadi Gaza Mr. Salem Abu Ayada, and representatives of civil and government institutions, in addition to notables and residents of the area and representatives of the local community.
Mayor Salem Abu Ayada praised the great role played by the Cooperative Association and CMWU in completing the new well drilling project and constructing the desalination plant, and their support for other projects related to the water sector and infrastructure in the area, noting that Wadi Gaza village greatly needs this plant so that drinking water suitable for use is available to all residents of the area.
Abu Ayada thanked all the institutions supporting this project, foremost among them the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, CMWU, and the Cooperative Association, for this great effort in quickly completing and opening the desalination plant, calling on all institutions to continue providing development projects in this border area.
For his part, Eng. Ramadan Naeem, Director of the Supervision and Projects Department, affirmed that this project is part of an integrated program for developing Wadi Gaza village implemented by the Cooperative Association in partnership with numerous institutions and competent bodies, foremost among them CMWU.
Regarding the well and desalination plant construction project, Naeem pointed out that the project's value is about $240,000, including constructing a water well with a production capacity of 60 cubic meters per hour, constructing a desalination plant with a capacity of 50 cubic meters per day, and laying a conveyance line 1,900 meters long to transfer the well's water to the Municipality's distribution network, explaining that the plant constructed contributes to improving the quantity and quality of drinking water for Wadi Gaza's residents.
For his part, Eng. Fadi Al-Hindi, Director of the Cooperative Association in the Gaza Strip, extended thanks to the Kuwait Fund and the Islamic Development Bank for their continuous support of development projects in the Gaza Strip, and pointed out that it is our duty to stand by our people in Wadi Gaza village, an area that has suffered a great deal, especially from military incursions, and also extended a word of thanks to all the parties that contributed to constructing the water well and desalination plant, whether the local community, the Municipality, CMWU, or supporters in achieving this accomplishment within our integrated program for developing the area.
In a speech on behalf of the area's residents, Mr. Waheed Abu Issa extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Cooperative Association, CMWU, the Kuwait Fund for Development, the Mayor of Wadi Gaza, and all supporters for implementing this important project, which meets the needs of all the area's residents and provides drinking water suitable for use, after the area was exposed to great destruction of the water networks during the last Israeli war.
