Minister Ibrahim Abu Al-Naja, Governor of Gaza, Visits CMWU.
Gaza - CMWU received at its main headquarters Minister Ibrahim Abu Al-Naja, Governor of Gaza, with this visit aiming to review the progress of work at CMWU and learn about the latest projects and developments related to the water and sanitation sector in Gaza's governorates.
He was received by Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan "Abu Awni," Chairman of CMWU's Board of Directors, and Eng. Monther Shoblaq, the Utility's Director-General, with Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan welcoming Mr. Abu Al-Naja and his accompanying delegation, thanking him for his presence and familiar interest.
Dr. Abu Ramadan praised the importance of this visit in strengthening communication and cooperation between the Utility's management and His Excellency the Governor, for the good and progress of the residents of the Gaza Strip in general and Gaza city in particular, and intensifying efforts aimed at improving living and service conditions, particularly water and sanitation services, expressing his great appreciation for the Governor's continuous and distinguished efforts, which have a great positive impact on the general public of our people.
During his meeting with the Governor, Dr. Abu Ramadan clarified numerous details related to the workings of the Utility and the progress of work on its strategic and qualitative projects, affirming that the Utility spares no effort to remain, as everyone has known it, one of the most important service institutions in the Gaza Strip, also noting the Utility's appreciation for the extent of trust it enjoys from all components of the beloved homeland, from the highest level of its leadership represented by His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas "Abu Mazen," President of the State of Palestine, the supporter and patron of the journey of building, giving, and development, through all government bodies, the public and private sectors, and the general public of our Palestinian people, with the Utility's distinguished performance and continuous effort having attracted the interest of numerous international donor institutions, with the scale of CMWU's achievements in infrastructure projects in the fields of water, sanitation, and rainwater reaching about $500 million, in addition to maintaining its relationship of partnership and openness with all sectors of society, out of its belief in the role and importance of integrating efforts as one of the most important pillars of improving water and sanitation services.
Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan also spoke about the importance of the Central Gaza Sewage Treatment Plant project, which will serve about 900,000 residents of Gaza and Central governorates, generously funded by the German government through the KfW institution, in addition to the project to construct the seawater desalination plant in Al-Sudaniya area, expected to bring about a qualitative shift in the quality of water provided to about 200,000 residents of Gaza city.
In turn, Eng. Monther Shoblaq, during his presentation of the Utility's achievements, projects, services, and plans, affirmed the importance of this visit as it comes at a time when the water sector in Gaza still suffers from numerous challenges, foremost among them the continuing Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip and the worsening electricity crisis, explaining to the Governor the details of the current water situation, the most prominent obstacles and challenges, as well as the projects and efforts CMWU is undertaking to overcome these problems and develop the water and sanitation sector.
In turn, Governor Ibrahim Abu Al-Naja presented a shield of thanks and appreciation to Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan, in recognition of his prominent role in leading CMWU, and expressed his admiration for the real achievements he witnessed, praising its continuous keenness on providing the best services and overcoming all the current obstacles in the Gaza Strip, and its refusal to surrender to the difficult circumstances, particularly since the water and sanitation sector is one of the most important basic pillars directly affecting residents and one of the most important components of national development.
The Governor also affirmed the importance of combining all efforts to support water and sanitation projects and preserve this main and sensitive resource, affirming his keenness on the continuation of cooperation and interest from all parties to support the water and sanitation sector, and overcome all the obstacles hindering the progress of work, hoping that the coming days would bring what is good for this important service sector and for the general public of our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
