CMWU's Director-General Inspects the Effectiveness of Several Rainwater Drainage Facilities amid the Current Weather Depression

Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, conducted an inspection tour of rainwater drainage sites in numerous areas, especially in the southern and middle governorates of the Gaza Strip, accompanied by engineers from the Projects Department and the Technical Department and CMWU's area directors, during which the effectiveness of rainwater drainage facilities and the numerous works and projects constructed by CMWU since the beginning of the winter season and just before the current weather depression to reduce the effects resulting from heavy rainfall were reviewed.
The tour began with a visit to Wadi Al-Salqa, during which the effectiveness of the water flow in the valley's channel was reviewed after CMWU had recently increased the channel's depth over a stretch of 9 kilometers, with the effectiveness of this work evident during the current depression in terms of the extent to which the valley's channel absorbed the rainwater without flooding occurring.
Eng. Abdul Rahim Al-Abadla, Mayor of Al-Qarara, accompanied the Utility's Director-General and those accompanying him to the existing rainwater drainage basin in the Al-Muharrarat area in the western part of Al-Qarara, following works carried out by CMWU to increase the basin's depth in order to increase its capacity to absorb rainwater and lay a conveyance line, with those works essentially helping to absorb large quantities of rainwater and avoid flooding.
The visit also included the rainwater collection basin in Al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis city, where Eng. Yahya Al-Astal, Mayor of Khan Younis and a member of CMWU's Board of Directors, and Eng. Hatem Abu Al-Teif, Director of the Utility's headquarters in Khan Younis, were present, and it is noted that CMWU had prepared the basin before the depression by installing a number of mobile pumps with the necessary lines to drain the water in case the level of rainwater inside the basin rose.
The final stops of the visit were in Rafah city, where Eng. Firas Abu Nqira, Director of the Utility's regional headquarters in Rafah governorate, joined CMWU's team to visit several sites, including the Obeida area to inspect the effectiveness of the 1.25-diameter rainwater line, whose construction was recently completed, in addition to 30 rainwater catch basins to transfer the water collected in the Obeida area to the filtration basin near the Egyptian border.
The Utility's team then moved to the Jemeza Al-Sabeel area to inspect the pumping station there, given the critical situation the area experiences during the rainy season and the rise in water level, where the Utility installed a rainwater pump at the station that pumps towards the treatment basins in the Tal Al-Sultan area, and also installed another pump at the Al-Najili pumping station.
At the end of the tour, CMWU's Director visited the Utility's main warehouses to inspect the disbursement of the materials available to it for the emergency teams working in all areas in coordination with the municipalities in the Gaza Strip, thereby affirming that the Utility is working with all its energy and capabilities and responding to any call for intervention to avoid any damage that may result from rainwater.
