Gaza – CMWU, in cooperation with the Dorsch consulting office, held a workshop to present the study on the precautions and works specific to the Wadi Gaza course area, as part of completing the stages of constructing the Central sewage treatment plant east of Al-Bureij camp, central Gaza Strip, funded by the German Development Bank, which is considered one of the largest strategic sanitation projects in the Gaza Strip.
The workshop was chaired by Eng. Monther Issa Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, in the presence of Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, Deputy Director-General of the Utility, Eng. Fareed Ashour, Director of the Central Gaza Sewage Project Management Unit, Mr. Kief Brock, Technical Director for Water and Sanitation at the Dorsch consulting office, and a number of representatives and crews from the consulting office, and in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Local Government, the Palestinian Water Authority, the Environmental Quality Authority, and Gaza Municipality.
In turn, Eng. Monther Shoblaq reviewed the most important basic items related to the study of the needs and works related to the Wadi Gaza course, which is considered an important natural reserve that should be preserved, pointing to the most important needs and works specific to the wadi's course to ensure its protection and the flow of the treated water resulting from the Central treatment plant, whose construction stages are currently being completed east of Al-Bureij, central Gaza Strip, which will benefit more than 900,000 residents of Gaza and Central governorates, with its production capacity expected to reach 60,000 cubic meters of treated water daily, renewing his thanks to the German government and the German Development Bank supporting this project, whose grant is estimated at €70 million.
Mr. Kief Brock also spoke about numerous logistical aspects related to the Wadi Gaza course, affirming the Dorsch consulting office's keenness to carry out all procedures related to ensuring the protection of the wadi and the optimal flow of the treated water within it, with the treated water to be used to irrigate the fields bordering the wadi's two banks, planted with numerous fruit trees that need irrigation and currently consume large quantities of water, leading to further depletion of the groundwater stock in the Gaza Strip.
The workshop also included several interventions, inquiries, and observations from the attendees, who praised the Utility's and the Dorsch consulting office's keenness and attention to taking all the necessary measures for the progress of work on this strategic and qualitative project in the best manner.
