The members of the general assembly of the Water Service Providers Union elected their administrative board following a meeting held at the Zahrat Al-Buruj Towers Hotel in Ramallah, attended by all its members from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The elections resulted in Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General in the Gaza Strip, being elected Chairman of the Union, while Eng. Imad Al-Masri, Director of the Water and Sanitation Department at Nablus Municipality, became Vice-Chairman, Eng. Raed Samara, Executive Director of the West Bethlehem Rural Services Council, was elected Secretary, and Eng. Munir Jaradat, Executive Director of the West Jenin Services Council, was elected Treasurer.
The elections took place in a democratic atmosphere with the participation of all members representing the water sectors in the West Bank and Gaza, in the presence of a representative of the Ministry of Labor to oversee the electoral process, and in the presence of the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Following the results, Eng. Monther Shoblaq said that the Palestinian achievement lies in the continuation of the Water Service Providers Union, which bears a great burden in providing water and sanitation services amid the difficult political and economic circumstances, and affirmed the continuation of the elected union board's cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority and the Palestinian Water Sector Regulatory Council with the aim of developing water services in all Palestinian cities and villages, and Eng. Shoblaq thanked the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) for its continuous support of water service providers through supporting programs for workers in the water sector.
For his part, Mr. Thomas Reckel, GIZ's representative in the Palestinian territories, praised the integrity and spirit of Palestinian democracy and transparency in the Water Service Providers Union elections in Palestine, saying it is a positive step forward for Palestinians in the water sector field, as the water program in Palestine, implemented by the German cooperation program, implements a training program for workers in the water and sanitation sector, covering several technical, administrative, and financial aspects, aiming to raise the efficiency of workers in the water and sanitation sector, with the training program implemented in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority and the Palestinian Water Service Providers Union.
