Gaza - CMWU received at its main headquarters Ms. Marina Wes, the World Bank's Regional Director for Palestine, and her deputy Mr. Phillipe Bjørn, who is visiting the Gaza Strip in order to review the current situation in the Strip, and to closely learn about the water projects supported by the World Bank in the Gaza Strip.
She was received by Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan, Chairman of CMWU's Board of Directors, with Dr. Abu Ramadan welcoming Ms. Wes and her deputy, and praising the importance of this visit and the great keenness it represents from the World Bank to support the water and sanitation sector, expressing his great appreciation for this distinguished and continuous support for CMWU's projects for more than a decade, which has had a positive and prominent impact on improving the services provided to residents, and overcoming the current water crisis in the Gaza Strip, through the qualitative projects that CMWU supervised the implementation of in the fields of water and sanitation.
In turn, Ms. Marina Wes praised CMWU's prominent role in the field of water and sanitation services in the Gaza Strip, and the achievements made in numerous qualitative projects supported by the World Bank, affirming the World Bank's keenness on continuing its support for these important and fundamental projects, and its great interest in improving the quality of services provided to residents through CMWU.
It is worth noting that the World Bank, in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority, CMWU, and the Water Sector Regulatory Council, is preparing the "Water Security Development" program, which aims to complete the development of the institutional building of the water sector in Palestine in general and CMWU in the Gaza Strip in particular, as part of the Palestinian Water Law.
