Announcing the Consulting Services Project for the Rainwater and Solar Power Project in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah Cities

UNICEF recently began issuing a tender for consulting services for the project to construct a rainwater drainage system in Al-Wafiya area in Khan Younis city and Deir al-Balah city.
This project, which comes in partnership with CMWU and the Palestinian Water Authority, and funded generously by the sisterly State of Kuwait, estimated at about $2.6 million, will supply 6 water and sanitation facilities in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah cities with solar power systems, and construct rainwater drainage networks with a total length of 2.1 kilometers in Khan Younis city's neighborhoods, and construct rainwater networks in Deir al-Balah next to Wadi Al-Salqa with a length of 400 meters.
Through the consulting service, the aforementioned projects' documents will be designed and prepared, in addition to direct supervision of the works' implementation, in coordination with CMWU's and the Water Authority's crews, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality and under the supervision of UNICEF.
It is worth noting that this project is considered one of the most important projects that will directly contribute to solving the problem of flooding on some streets of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah cities, which suffer annually during the rainy season from street flooding and disrupted residents' movement, with this project, expected to begin implementation next April, contributing to strengthening and improving the groundwater aquifer's water in those areas, in addition to ensuring the operation of the targeted facilities for longer hours and providing a better service to the targeted residents, whose number is estimated at about 280,000 people.
