CMWU, in coordination with the Central Sewage Project Management Unit and the Dorsch engineering consulting firm, organized a preparatory meeting for qualified contractors to submit the technical and financial proposal for the central treatment plant construction project east of Al-Bureij and the central sewage pumping station, in the presence of Eng. Keith Brooke, Director of the Dorsch consulting office.
Representatives of international contracting companies participated in the meeting with their local contractor partners: Water LEAV (Skills), Passavant (MACC), WTE (CCC), Metito (SAK), and MPE (El Khaesy).
At the outset, Eng. Fareed Ashour, Director of the Central Sewage Project Management Unit, explained that the purpose of the meeting was to present the project's components and identify the obstacles contractors might face during its implementation, and to take all these obstacles into consideration when submitting the technical and financial proposal for the project.
Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, also welcomed all attendees, affirming that the project is a Palestinian challenge and a national achievement, and there is no going back on this project because it is the lifeboat for the sewage problems in Gaza and the middle area.
Shoblaq affirmed the Utility's keenness to complete the project, pointing to the availability of factors for success, and called on all the partners represented by CMWU, the project management unit, the consulting office, and the local and international contracting companies to work hard and sincerely to implement this project.
For his part, Mr. Keith Brooke presented a description of the project and its components, in addition to answering all the questions raised by the contractors regarding the project.
After the meeting ended, the attendees moved to visit the project's sites, consisting of the central pumping station next to the intersection of Wadi Gaza with Salah Al-Din Street, in addition to the central treatment plant site east of Al-Bureij.
This project comes to construct the central treatment plant and the central sewage pumping station, which will serve Gaza governorate in addition to the middle governorate, with an estimated value for the first phase of about €65 million, to be followed by two other projects for the conveyance lines from Gaza city and the middle area to the central pumping station.
