CMWU Opens Water Reservoirs in Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat, Central Gaza Strip
CMWU and the Palestinian Water Authority opened water reservoirs in Deir al-Balah city and Nuseirat camp, central Gaza Strip, funded by USAID.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Water Authority Chairman Minister Mazen Ghanem, CMWU's Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan, Central Governorate Governor Dr. Abdullah Abu Samhadana, CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq, Nuseirat Municipality's Mayor Mr. Mohammed Abu Shukian, and a group of mukhtars, notables, and residents of the two areas.
In turn, Dr. Majed Awni Abu Ramadan, Chairman of CMWU's Board of Directors, expressed his sincere thanks to USAID, the Water Authority, and all supporters and contributors to the success of this project and all the Utility's projects, affirming that these two reservoirs would contribute to increasing water quality and improving the delivery of the service to residents of the Central Governorate of the Gaza Strip.
Minister Ghanem also thanked all the contributors to completing these two important and vital projects, which come as part of the efforts made to improve water services in the Gaza Strip amid the crisis the Strip is suffering from in this aspect, and amid the warnings issued by international bodies regarding the risks of the continuing water crisis in the Strip, thanking CMWU and all the working crews for completing these two reservoirs in the best manner.
Central Governorate Governor Dr. Abdullah Abu Samhadana also extended his greetings and appreciation to the Water Authority and CMWU for their great achievement in these two projects, hoping for the continuation of water and sanitation projects in the Central Governorate.
Nuseirat Municipality's Mayor Mr. Mohammed Abu Shukian also spoke about the importance of this new reservoir for the camp's residents, and the qualitative shift it represents in terms of providing water services to residents.
It is worth noting that the new Nuseirat reservoir was constructed with a capacity of 3,800 cubic meters and fully serves Nuseirat camp, with the number of beneficiaries from it reaching 80,000 people, and Al-Baraka reservoir in Deir al-Balah has a capacity of 3,800 cubic meters and serves the western and southern parts of Deir al-Balah city (Al-Hakr, Al-Masha'la, Al-Baraka, Al-Mu'askar, Al-Hadaba areas), with the number of beneficiaries from the reservoir exceeding 50,000 people.
