The German government announces an emergency grant of €9 million to repair damage to the water and sanitation sector, estimated at $34 million.
€9 Million in Emergency Funding from the German Government to Repair Damage to the Water and Sanitation Sector Resulting from the Israeli Attacks on the Gaza Strip

The German government announced a grant worth €9 million as emergency funding to restore water and sanitation facilities destroyed or damaged due to the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which caused severe damage to the water and sanitation sector, with CMWU, in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority, to work on implementing rehabilitation and construction works for water and sanitation facilities that were destroyed or damaged, with the funding arriving directly through the Gaza Central Emergency Sewage project (KfW).
The German government considered the water and sanitation sector one of the most important sectors that must be immediately supported for rehabilitation, given the vital importance of this sector and the services it provides, which cannot be dispensed with for the residents of the Gaza Strip, despite the severe and serious damage sustained by all sectors, infrastructure, and all aspects of life.
The German government also promised to provide the necessary funding as quickly as possible so CMWU and the concerned parties can work to rehabilitate water and sanitation facilities and continue providing their services to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
For his part, Eng. Monther Shoblaq, CMWU's Director-General, affirmed the scale of the severe and great damage sustained by many water and sanitation facilities at the level of all the Strip's governorates, whose value was estimated at about $34 million, with a large proportion of water networks, water reservoirs, desalination plants, and numerous treatment plants and sewage pumps recorded as damaged.
Eng. Shoblaq added that although the estimates are still preliminary, we affirm the severity of the damage sustained by the water and sanitation sector in the Gaza Strip, which was already suffering from a dangerous reality, and that we need a lot of support, effort, and work to repair what has been destroyed.
Eng. Shoblaq also stressed the necessity for all countries of the world to stand by the Gaza Strip amid these extremely complex circumstances and provide urgent support to rehabilitate water and sanitation facilities, to spare the Strip's residents environmental and humanitarian disasters added to what they are suffering during these difficult periods of inhumane conditions at various levels.
