‘Terre des Hommes - Lausanne’ supplies CMWU with chlorine to fulfill an emergency need that helps provide clean water for war affected families in Gaza
CMWU-Gaza
CMWU Signed an agreement with the Swiss Foundation “Terre des Hommes” to supply 109 cubic meters of chlorine used for disinfecting water-wells belonging to CMWU and municipalities in different areas of Gaza Strip, to enable 1800.000 people to consume clean disinfected water.More than ninety per cent of the water offered to the population in the Gaza Strip has been classified as unsuitable for human consumption. To improve this situation, the Palestinian entity responsible for water in Gaza, CMWU, needs a regular supply of chlorine to treat water wells. Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) approached Tdh with an urgent request. An agreement was quickly signed allowing Terre des Hommes to supply 109 cubic meters of chlorine used for disinfecting water wells belonging to CMWU in different areas of Gaza Strip.

CMWU was faced with an emergency situation as the 51-day war last summer made it impossible to replenish chlorine stocks. Terre des Hommes Foundation agreed to provide the Utility with the required amount of chlorine for a total of three months. This agreement reduced a significant financial burden on CMWU and responded to an urgent need on the exact time. It is noteworthy that this partnership benefitted almost all 1.7 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip who will be able to use clean and safe water, as CMWU distributed chlorine to all water wells in the Gaza Strip.
